Fried Processor??!!?! Help!!!

ok, my friend built a sever computer, and he got a processor, put on heatsink and fan. he spilled theremall solution on the rectangle things around the middle http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=19-103-156-04.jpg is that bad? it ran for a little while but, it wont now. there is no display. is this the problem or is it something else? thanx

id be curiouse to know that also... for exampel- covering the entire top of the CPU with thermal past... prolly wouldnt perform as the paist is disigned, but would it actually beable to harm any part of it like aceman describes?

its not good for the processor. Thermal paste is good at transfering heat but it doesn't transfer electricity so it won't short anything.
