Default Folders Showing As Empty

Hi.returning to forum after some time a problem which i hope someone can help.....over the last year i have copied all my favourite dvds to my computer ... as dvdx files and also using various other methods....I re-installed windows XP as i had registry problems.i have re-installed all software and upgrades i cant access the folders in the movies partition.....says all floders are empty yet still showing as over 40
gigs used in properties.....any ideas.........i can reinstall them after formating this partition as they are virtually all films which i have on dvd.........but i don't want to waste time doing this if there is any other way....
any comments would be appreciated......
mark g

ps....the partition in question is a partition on a secondary hard drive...different one to opperating surely would not have been deleted during re- istall of windows xp
