External USB HDD Error

Hi All! I'm a newbie here...
Just want to know what seems to be the problem and how to resolve it when I'm trying to remove my external hdd on PC there's an error message "Problem Ejecting USB Mass Storage Device" when clicking the Safely Remove Hardware.

As long as the hard drive is not writing it's fine to just unplug it
