External HD enclosure

I'm going to build a 1TB external HD, mainly for music and photos. I will not be running any OS on it. Should I consider an external enclosure with a built in fan or will that not be necessary?

Also, any thoughts on 1TB 3.5" HD choices?

Will you be running it permananently on or only turning on for usage?

it will be running all of the time. media monkey will be accessing music from this drive often

I love the icydocks there body is a heatsink for the drive within which is an excellent idea plus they are on MIR offer atm
