External HD Advice

Hi Everyone

Im thinking about buying an external HD, one of the usb 2.0 ones, or perhaps firewire.

Ive been out of the game in awhile, so I dont know if there are any disadvantages to having one (along with my other 200 gigs of internal space) Also, whats a good price for like 100-160gb? Perhaps some recommendations?

The USB is way slower though the external keeps it speed unlike the internal. I did a test on my system. The external drive (Maxtor 7200 rpm 120GB 8MB cache in $30 external case) bursted at 30MB/s and sustained 30MB/s the whole time.
The internal (Maxtor 40GB 2MB Cache 7200RPM) bursted at 89MB/s and started out at 50MB/s and then went down to 25MB/s.

Get a firewire HD, 400mb transfer rates. Just make sure you have a decent firewire card.

I ended up buying a 25.00 aluminum usb 2.0 enclosure from newegg and it works awesome! I had a 120 gb Western Digital 7200 it works super easy/fast with usb 2.0. I seriously can't even tell the dif from my internal HDD
