I was wondering what today's best external hard drives were? Like whats the norm so to speak?

Thanks

Depends, the fastest would be an eSata connected drive that uses a 7200.11 drive I would think. You could also make your own with a nice external enclosure that has esata and put a velociraptor or a ssd in there.

Depends really on what connections you have.

I would've thought the 7200.12 would be faster. Anyway semantics, any decent-performing drive, Seagate or WD would be good.

Prefered and most common choice are drives with usb. They do not require an ac adapter since usb can power it.

If you looking more for speed than practicality, buy an external enclosure w/ e-sata or firewire with a 7200rpm drive. Ther are even raid enclosures for mutiple hard drives and added speed in raid 0, but those are expensive.

my roommate is looking for one, he has a dell laptop (idk what kind) probably some low end thing. He is looking for quantity more than quality i think. Both i think are possible these days but i wasn't sure.
