emonster 550r

i just got an emachines "emonster 550r" with a "Napoli-II" motherboard and when it reaches the post it sais:

searching for boot record from floppy...not found

searching for boot record from cd-rom...not found

searching for boot record from ide-0...OK

then it just hangs there not doing anything, the operating system has already been installed on a previous computer and then i just took the harddrive out and put it on the emachines. does anyone know what the HELL is going on?!?!.

try launchin ur comp with teh drivers cd in there, then try reinstalling ur whole comp it should work

What is going on is that it ain't gonna work.

The OS (Windows) was installed on a different machine, in a different set-up, with different components. Windows checks these things, and if they don't match (different mobo, for instance), it just won't work.

There is probably a registry hack for it, but I don't know it. You'd have to use a Knoppix CD, or install the drive as a slave in a different computer to access it, anyway.
