that brings me again to my first question
if it is just a parity bit, then it is just error retection (it can detect odd number of errors) and not error correction, in this case why is ECC called Error checking and correction. there does not seem to be any error correction here.

if you get to know the byte is in error, you drop the byte. am i right?

ah, here is a place that will explain it

also, if just parity and the bit is in error causing the process to halt, it will drop the instruction and request for it to be sent from memory again.

no problem, wished I'd found it earlier. no insult to intelligence, but unsure of how much you know and if you can figure the equations. since I have it in front of me if you need I would now have an easier time of putting it in laymen terms. dont take offense it that, though! just now sure how much you know its easier for me, too because I have to write this between fixing crap and my thoughts tend to get side tracked, but now I have a blue print to gather my thoughts and if an explanation is needed, dont hesitate to ask
