DVI socket? what can i do with this?

as title, had my LCD for about a year now and just noticed ive got a DVI socket, what exactly is this used for?

Same thing as a VGA, but with a little better quality.

DVI will be the successor for VGA. However they are are slowly phasing them out with PC.

DVI = digital visual interface. Unlike with a normal VGA analog signal, the information is traversed digitally.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to this. For example, digital signals are more reliable as signal corruption/noise is less of an issue. On the other hand, the information is only precise as the bit depth of the information, etc.
