Default DVD-ROM Problems

I am using a Lite-On LTD-163 DVD-ROM drive on Windows XP. The drive will no longer read discs and will lock up. The light on the drive is constantly flashing and i must eject the disc using a paperclip. Also, when i first put in the disc, when it spins the disc rattles in the drive. Please help!
