Default dvd prob with xp.

Hi, have just installed a pioneer dvd 114. runing win XP pro. It is recognised correctly but the driver instaled is for a CD & it will not recognise a DVD [will [play cd] Have a cd burner also which will burrn using Nero but not otherwise [no problem] Have tried 'dvdupgrd' and also to update driver but comes back best driver loaded?? Can anyone help please?? Thanks Al//

What kind of DVD were you putting in the drive? Not all types of DVDs are supported by DVD drives.

Check if it is DVD+RW, DVD-RW or both (DVD+/- RW)
and check if you are inserting the correct media

thanks for your help. have tried all kinds of dvd's the drive runs a small disk shows on screen then it stops., It is recognised as DVD-114 by windows but does not recognise any dvd's

May be a faulty drive?

Well you were right!! As the DVD was new I never thought that it was U/S. Havbe just tried anothere DVD in my pc & it works finwe. Thank you all for your assistance.
