DVD drive not reading Data DVD's

I have a Matshita(panasonic) DVD-rom Sr-8586. This drive works perfectly when i want to play dvd movies, but when it comes to Data DVD's, it acts like there is no Disk in the drive. Does anyone know whats wrong?

what kind of DVDs are you using for data DVDs?

I am trying to get the drive to read a DVD-R

have you checked the manufacturer's website to see if your drive is compatible with that DVD format?

A. Panasonic only has drivers for win9x nothing more
B. When using nero tools, it says that my drive is able to read DVD-R's

Yet it still wont read them!

Im thinkin i may have to go out and spend 20 bucks on a new dvd drive
