if his RAM is only PC2700 it might be bottlenecking it

just thought of something, what programs have you got running in the background?
you might have some resource hoggers there

what hard drives? he has a sata, but i dunno it that affects the frame rate that much.

Hard drives affect load times, not framerate.

hmm. did he unrar the pk files? that doesnt change frame rate much tho, only frame transitions

We are both playing the exact same installation of Doom 3, don't ask how There is NOTHING different between my installation and his as far as tweaks and stuff.

I'd say you have too many programs open there, they are taking up too much memory and Doom 3 may be forced to run in paging file which can severely diminish performance
