Whenever I install the stock drivers I had recieved from Dell, I always run into an error when installing the chipset (Intel i775) software driver. It seems to conflict with my video card (GeForce FX 5200). You cannot makeout anything on the display except where the mouse is moving and some letters. Tried installing latest video drivers instead of the stock ones and still ran into a problem when going to install the chipset software. Also, when i goto get SP2, it does the same thing without the chipset software installed. Comp. works fine with SP1a and no chipset software drivers.

i did uninstall the dell drivers... the stock dell drivers with the utilities disk should work as well. do you think its a hardware problem?

possibly

dell's power supply is crap so it might not support a gfx card, but this doesn't seem likely, since the 5200 isn't a power hungry card

try dling the 71.89 drivers off www.nvidia.com

This is what you need to do, dell are honestly crap and face these problems

Find an XP CD, you already have a legal key
Download all the drivers for everything, google partname driver.

Reinstall from the XP CD (preferably SP2) and install all the drivers.
