Compaq informed me of a BIOS update...but the update did not resolve the non-ability to disable HyperThreading. So we returned the Compaq and purchased a Sony VAIO RS420.
Both the machines have very similar specs. But the Sony machine runs so much better, because it does not have the extra Compaq-added crap that always runs in the background....Compaq pop-up windows, advertising, etc. And the 120 GB harddrive on the Sony machine was partitioned with a 90 GB D: drive right out of the box, so the drive did not have to be reformatted.
Big thumbs down to Compaq.
