Digital speakers no worky

I have a pair of Boston Digital Speakers and for some reason they will not work with my onboard sound on my ASUS K8V SE Deluxe mobo.

Is there software i need to get or am i just screwed and need a sound card/new speakers

the sound card has to support digital output... if it does, make sure that you choose digital and not analog in the menu. Not sure how for yours, but the old SBLive had a choice in the config to toggle between digital and analog.

lol, pretty much the connection for the speakers. actually there is a special dac chip that handles it. the digital is cleaner sounding (think of a sound wave in digital form would be straight lines up across and down where an analog signal would be more rounded. more subtle nuances, but not as clean at times.
