Different Graphics cards, Different pic quality ?

I have a redeon 9700 pro

My new system will have a redeon x800xt

When playing doom3 - if I use the same settings ( eg. 1200 *1600 and high quality ) on both cards I know the framerate will be higher on the x800xt , but will the actual picture quality be better or different ?

Does the different cards do different things with the graphics and the way it is displayed ?

By the way, at the settings above the 9700 pro is crap!

sometimes it does, yes, but the picture quality of the 9700pro is predominately good, i know the X800XT is a very good card, but i doubt there will be a noticeable difference.
