I wouldnt install anything higher than Windows 2000 on that unit. Xp will not run good at all.
But, if you dont care then:
Does the drive show up in the bios? Try Booting from a windows 98/ME disk into DOS and use FDISK to remove and recreate a partition, then format it in DOS. Once complete, try to install Windows.
