dell laptop ram?!!!?

hi, i have a dell inspiron 5100 and curently it has 2 sicks of ddr266 128mb of ram i ordered a stick of 512 ddr 266 and bios just beeps even if i have the 512 and a stick of 128 and it also just beeps when i jsut have 512 in it i dont know what to do...what woudl you do? fight with the ram or jsut send it back and get a different brand, if so what brand?

Dell computers (especially laptops) can only use certain brands of memory. Your best bet is to go to www.crucial.com. There you can tell it your system and it will show you a stick that they guarentee will work. You can order it from them or double check the same stick on newegg to see if you get a better price there (happens sometimes).

Are you sure that your laptop supports 512 dimms? Some of the older laptops only support 256.
