ok so i was thinking of getting 2 6800 ultras in sli but now i hear of 512 mb ones coming out soon. 2 questions.

is it worth getting 2 of these 512mb ones for sli?

will the 6800 ultra price decreas? if so by how much you reckon?

I would bet the 6800 Ultra's will drop by around $100 when the new 512 cards come out. They probably wont be coming out until mid or late 2005 though. Personally, I would go ahead and get the 6800 Ultra's. 2 of those will handle anything for awhile to come. 2 of the new 512 when they come out will cost you over $1000 easily. Probably more. I would guess they may go for around $599 each.

The 512 nvidia cards coming out are just modded quadros and the atis are modded X850s

I'm not sure about the nvidia cards but the ATIs acheive 512 using dual rank architechture and while they say they solved latency problems that are associated with the architechture I dont really beleive them.

Personally I'd wait for the next gen cards with 512mb built in without the latency issues to drop nearly a grand on a card.

Are 512MB card even worth it at this point in time? Especially when games still get by wonderfully with only 128MB (6600 GT, 6800 regular)?

Thats the other point I was gonna make and forgot. Most games don't fill up even 256 mb ram yet let alone 512.

If you look at bench tests, where there are cards with 128mb and 256, the 256mb give only a small increase.

i think da new 512 will b around [just a guess] 700-900 dollarz. heck itz new technology

The 512mb cards were tested in a magazine test with very little improvement over anything with 256mb of ram. And they said the release versions will be around 799 so definetly not worth the money. Two 6800 ultras will definetly blow the 512mb cards outta the water i think.
