Default Curing the intrigue

I've always been fascinated with comps, but I've never really understood how they work. I mean, I know how to build one and all, but I really don't know how they function. I wanna know the physics behind them all. I know basic stuff, like transistors and things like that, but I want to go in depth on all the parts. Peter Norton's Inside The PC seems like a step in the right direction, but I don't have 40 bucks to blow. Anyone got an idea?

i hate computers
