Default Crossfire question...

Okay, how exactly does Crossfire work??

I know a while ago you needed a "master card". Is this still the case?

I have a crossfire mobo and would kind of like to stick another X1950XT in there. The only problem is, the 1950 master card is double what I paid for my card.

Do I need it or no?

So, by external it means it needs a master card?

It looks like you need either a CF edition card or something faster.

Have you seen this?:
X-bit labs - AMD’s Graphics Division Readies ATI CrossFireX Technology.

Ya, I think the "19" series still used the master, slave card setup...

the 1950pro was the only card that didnt need the master/slave card... so sorry to hear that.. but you could get any 1900 master card.. don't gotta me a 1950... just whichever card is slower is gonna clock down to the slower one.... just buy a 2900pro when its out again.. you'll be happy you did..

It looks like AMD has fixed that problem. I think ATI rushed crossfire just to have something to compete with SLI.

I heard from some other post that the 2900pro was just a big batch of xt's that didn't quite meet some requirement. So now they are fading out already.... could have just been some rumor though.
