Default crashed hard drive

My brother's hard drive has crashed, what should he do now?
it is a SCSI drive which is not recognisable by the BIOS,

i guess the first step is to find out if it is a logical error (FAT gone) or a physical error?

Is he using a scsi card with a bios?

i think so. can a SCSI bypass the BIOS?
