Hi, I just registered here but have been reading here for a while.

I got a HP Pavillion XG823 from a neighbor and have started upgrading it. It came with a Celeron 700Mhz processor in a socket 370 and I decided to upgrade it. A friend gave me a Pentium 3 933Mhz processor from his old machine. I installed the new processor in my machine and it recognized it as a Pentium 3 but at 700Mhz.

I checked the BIOS and it will not allow me to change anything dealing with the processor (multiplier etc.). What can I do to let it run at 933Mhz? Is there a program I need to buy or do I need to update the BIOS? The BIOS says that it was installed in 2000.

Any help will be appreciated.

He isnt trying to overclock.

Try updating the BIOS. If that doesnt work, the maximum speed it supports is 700mhz

Make sure it is the right one though, there isnt any going back after if it doesnt work.

Do try clearing CMOS before updating it though.
