CPU upgrade

If i have an athlon xp board that supports 266mhz fsb and i buy an athlon xp chip that is like 333mhz or 400mhz, will it work in the machine?

i mean i know it will run slower ... but i have a chance to get the chip from a friend really cheap and was just wondering if it would even be compatible

It should work fine. The FSB will run at 266Megahertz.
