just wondering what a normal temperature for a p4 2.5 gig chip should be. thanks!

i live in the tropics,..i had a 2.5...temps were round 35C all fans running...but when turned off,..it could get as high as 50-55C

Just keep it below 55-60 deg C, and have at the very least, adequate cooling. When your processor starts clock-throttling, you will know when there's a big problem.
