hey i just bught a p4 3.0 ghz 1mb l2 cache ht intel socket t and it runs at 55 degrees celsius which is 130 degrees feirenhite what should i do?

you could get a better heatsync, they dont cost too much, and would/should help alot. are those idle or load temps??

Is that the idle temperature, or under load? If it's the load temperature I would say that is an excellent temperature, as mine runs at 64ËšC under load.

Well mine is running 36 degrees Celsius idle and 48 load. With stock cooling and Artic Silver 5 and even overclocked.
But its a northwood which runs cooler than your i think.
But still it should be a bit lower.

It might be your case that making it so hot.
Do you have any fans in your case for airflow?

M3trj, that is far from a excellent temperature. In fact thats horrible. 130 degree celsius is alot. My friend has the same processor, with a custom heatsink, and he gets those temps. I told him to do somthing about that immediately. I also have a friend that runs a 3.2ghz Intel, she has some high temps also. Around 125 degrees celsius. Those temps do turn out to be normal.

I personally think those are horrible temps. Timmer, i recommend doing somthing about it. I would get a very good Heatsink and CPU Fan. Top of the line CPU Fans and Heatsinks dont cost much at all, so why not get the best.

Here is a great Heatsink. Their are few that will compare with this Heatsink. I suggest this one.

Also CPU Fans are VERY important. Here are a few i suggest, they are all very good, and cost like 12$. I think with that Heatsink and one of these CPU fans, you will get around 85-100 degree celsius, depending on your Case cooling.

These are all absolutely great CPU Fans. Just remember that these are not very quite. The top 3 are loud, and the others are pretty loud. But to me noise level is not important, just temperature level.

Ok, 55C under load is great. Just put some AS5 and it should shave off 5-7C degrees from your full load temps. Secondly, do not switch heatsinks. I take it that this is an LGA775 processor. If it is, then the LGA775 stock heatsink is the best you can get for those P4/CD on that package. There is no better air cooling. What more can you ask for? 4700 RPM, Huge ass fan? One more thing. If your board doesn't come with a utility for changing heatsink speeds, then I suggest you add a fan controller, an inexpensive and then turn up the fan speed...that is what i did and my proc. oced to 3.8 GHz from 2.8 is now at full load temps of 59C on 4000RPM

Codeine, I thought he said 55ËšC, 130ËšF. If it's 130ËšC then yeah that's far too hot, but 55ËšC is fine I thought.

I should think a processor would literally melt at 130ËšC.
