Default CPU for my PC, what core

Hello everyone,

I am about to buy a CPU for my PC. I will keep my current ATX board. I have a ASUS A7v-600X.

I am thinking about buying a AMD XP 3000 400....
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton 2.167 GHz 512K Cache 400FSB OEM

My main question is for $105 is this the best I can do? Is the barton core good quality? Last time I bought a CPU the core made a big difference. I currently have a XP 1700.

I know the Athlon 64's are faster but I don't want to have to upgrade all of my stuff right now because of the cost. For now I am planning on getting a CPU and then spend maybe $100 on a Geforce 6200.
