planning on getting amdxp3000+ cpu with the 400mhz fsb.
at newegg they only have it OEM, so i need to get a fan along with it.

any reccomendations on the fan?

no more than.... 40.. but i can bend.
ive heard good things from arctic silver fans. they good?

I stuck a coolermaster jet7 on mine. I liked the way it looked and all. I liked the 3" bay add-on too (turn dial gizmo for speed control). It seems to work good. My processor stays between 42 and 48c depending mostly on the outside temp of the room. On a hotter day it sits at 48.

Thermalright SLK makes an amazing heatsink, but you will pay for it. Its not in the 40 dollar range either after you factor in the fan you still need to purchase. It also depends on if you mind a lot of noise. The thermaltake volcano 12 does a nice job if you dont mind the noise in the background. Otherwise the company Zalman makes some nice low noise alternatives.

How much you looking to spend?

I have a Termalright SLK series on my 3200+ and I swear by it.
