under windows xp, we go
START --> PROGRAMS --> ACCESSORIES --> SYSTEM TOOLS --> System Information.

And we see some thing like this :-
Processor x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 1

If there any place that explain what model, stepping and family means to what CPU Brand and Speed?

Thank you

I know CPU-Z works for this sort of thing. But the problem is that the people that I am requesting this for wants some sort of reference chart as appose to a program.

I know the CPU-Z would be simpler, however.......

The In and outs of it....

http://grafi.ii.pw.edu.pl/gbm/x86/cpuid.html

The six stands for (6)86, placed in the place of x, meaning more advanced than pentium (pentium pro +), the Model (8) means Pentium III "Coppermine", Celeron w/SSE; then stepping one is like the first level of P3 Development, from what I understand from the webpage.

Make sense?

thank you
However I am going to convince the person that needs this info to use CPU-Z
