Lightbulb Connecting to the internet?

Alright. I'm gonna get a computer soon, and I will need to know the steps to connecting to the internet. Since the router and modem are in the basement, I bought a 50ft connecting wire to connect to the router. Now, when I hook it up to the router, do I need to do anything else or is it just it? I hook it up and i have it?

Srry for the n00b question.

If you use DHCP then yes it's that easy.

And with it comes the only basic human duty, to take the consequences.\'
