Default computer trouble

Ok -
just bought an amd palomino 2000+ and put it in an asus a7v333 mobo i had lying around(and i know works-it was in my internet computer a month ago). I turn it on and(mobo uses voice prompts instead of beep codes) it says "processor failed system test". Now here are the trouble shooting steps i took.
1. Checked cpu seating
2. A freind said my mobo might be shorted so i slipped a manila folder under the mobo, but to no avail
Otherwise I'm stumped
all suggestions welcome

try an other cpu in there. then u can deternmin if the cpu is garbage or the mobo is garbage. but most likely the cpu seeing as the mobo is alive and giving prompts

got to get another cpu to try(im borrowing one from a friend) but i found what looks like a jumper label in the upper left hand corner. The jumper itself is one that requires soldering
the label states
1-2 athalon.duron
2-3 palomino
there is no solder joint-how do i know what it defaults to?(could this be the source of my problem?)
And to answer micro bell-yes i have reset the cmos
