computer running very slowly

I just picked up a new computer today and installed a few things (antivirus, drivers etc.) For some reason my computer is running very slowly and when i am moving windows around they lag everywhere.

The computer specs are good too. (athlon 3500 1 gig ram etc)

any help is appreciated.

hmm, what do u mean by lags? have you installed the chipset and 3d card drivers?

A new computer should run fine

i installed the network controller, and the sound drivers thats it.....

since i have virtually nothing on my computer right now, can someone tell me how I can just remove everything and reinstall win xp?

1.) picked up? someone built it for you? how'd you get this? is it used?
2.) did it lag before you installed the software?
3.) don't use norton, don't use mcafee; www.avg.com is free and is much better than them; not to mention norton eats up your resources (and perhaps mcafee)
