Computer restarts itself

Computer restarts itself

My computer always auto restarts itself.
And sometimes when booting up, it restarts several times
anybody can give me advice on what to do?
and what may be the problem?
I'm using win XP
the motherboard is gigabyte GA-81PE1000
P4 2.4C processor
graphics is Abit Geforce Ti4200
Thanks a lot......

Tried a new power supply unit and tested both sticks of ram
problem still persist
is it the motherboard??

the system was working well for ,ore then a month
then the restarting just happened a few weeks ago
can boot into safe mode
the restarts occur randomly, sometimes while i was running a program, sometimes when the computer is idle
and sometimes when it is booting up

yeah if your computer was running fine for a month that would mean some kind of hardware failing. and since it is restarting during bootup that cannot be a operating system fault.

he said "graphics is Abit Geforce Ti4200", i don't even want to look up that card because it is a fairly recent card which should run at 1.5volt.

your hunch would be the same as mine, motherboard failure. i would not even try to reset the CMOS, just get a replacement from the place you bought it at. also i would consider getting a completly different mainboard model or go with a different manufacturer altogether (ok that may be a bit too paranoid).
