Running an Asus P4S800, with a 9600, 2.6

1 stick of Samsung 512 memory ddr400
and 2 sticks of 512 ddr400 generic memory.

1 gig.

When I turn on the computer sometimes, there's a long beep followed by 3 short beeps. It won't post, but I know it gets into windows because alt+f4 shuts it down once it's done booting.

And I can hear the windows music when I boot up as well.

It doesn't do this all the time though.

I've noticed it does it almost all the time on a cold boot though.

Thanks in advance

Don't mix your memory. Use one or the other and the problem should go away.

The beep codes depend on the motherboard you're using, but the majority of the time it is either memory or video card causing them. Make sure your m/b supports that amount of memory

Have a look at the user guide, page 1-4, item 4

PC2100/1600 support up to 3 DIMMs; PC3200/2700 support up to 2 DIMMS; 1 GB PC 3200/2700 with 32 DDR chips support to 1 DIMM only.

As you are using DDR 400 (PC3200), you can only use 2 sockets.

This info is repeated on page 1-6 under DDR 400 (PC3200) Support and again on page 1-12
