hey guys do you know why when you connect a PC to a SMART board the laptop screen becomes a square and not a rectangle? And does it have anything to do with screen res?

Depends on the resolution of the smartboard projector I assume. Also, the smartboard itself is probably square, and to most effectively use it, the software changes the screen to fit better on the board (probably the way it was calibrated the first time it was set up)

If you're duplicating the display, it's going to take the smaller of the resolutions, which is most likely the SMART Board, which isn't a widescreen display, but rather a standard 4:3 display. The laptop will adjust the resolution on the main screen to match the SMART Board since duplicate is the enabled mode. If you want them to be separate, disable duplication by enabling Expand.
