Default comparison of IDE, SATA & SCSI drives

Hello
Is there much difference( performance wise) in using an IDE, SATA or SCSI drive?

7200rpm 8mb cache ide drives all get 48-52mb/s

sata drives get 50-60ish, single raptors are 60-70ish. The 16mb cache maxtors are roughly the same throughput as the raptors

scsi u320 drives are like 80-90ish. Sometimes not even that, 75-85 is more likely.

I think SATA is the best price performance ratio. The WD 80gb for $60 is a steal.

Is IDE the same as PATA? Isn't IDE just a cable specification and PATA is the actual drive specification?
And PATA is the most popular...last year...this year it's expected to be taken by SATA.

What's SCSI....does anyone own one?

I built a 6 drive u-320 raid array for a toaster box that was going to the airforce. It was benching like 230-240mb/s.

and yes, you are correct about pata.

Yes, only get SCSI if you have too many $. The main advantage of SCSI is its reliability. That's why they are so freaking expensive. If I had the money I would certainly get SCSI.

IDE and (P)ATA are the same. Although some people refer to IDE as the interface and to ATA as the transfer protocol.
