there have been many people posting asking what hardware they should choose for their system, so I am going to write a guide, which anyone can add to

first of all, you need to know the purpose of the computer you are building; is it going to be a Server? a gaming machine? or just used for the internet?
and secondly, you need to know how much you can spend, and how much you think you should

servers generally have more memory and processing power than average computers, with any video card

e-machines can be anything from 200MHZ, 32MB RAM and a 4MB video card onwards

gaming machines generally have hardware to increase game's frames per second, so a more powerful CPU, graphics card and bigger hard drive are the main factors you want to look at
after you decide on the important parts, then you can decide on your case looks, lighing and whatnot

fell free to add to this
