Default chipsets... Intel 430HX

Question: 1. Are the IDE controllers on motherboards on a separate bus or do they share the PCI bus? Because I've heard that for example the Serial ATA 150 integrated controllers use a separate bus from the PCI.
2. If only SOME chipsets use the PCI bus for IDE controllers, which chipsets do this? I've looked at technical documents at the intel website but haven't been able to find a definate answer.
3. Is it only recently they've given the IDE controllers their own separate bus?

the 430hx chipset controls both the PCI bus and IDE drives and shares the data bus with the rest of the system
