Okay, first off, I know almost nothing about computers past basic stuff, so try to be as basic with me as possible. Im in school, wanting to build a budget system for around 400-600 best bang for buck for gaming. I already have a monitor, keyboard and mouse, just wanting the PC...I have had a friend put together a list for and we have been changing it around a little.

First off, I already have a geforce 5200fx video card. I was planning on getting the 6600gt, but due to costs and fixing my beater car I cant right now, but he says he will trade me his ATI 8500(agp) for my 5200fx(pci) because he does not have a agp slot on his computer. Which one of these cards is better?

Here is the list, I am planning on getting some different fans and a different PSU, but thats about it. Again, this is a budget BEST BANG FOR BUCK system I want built, I dont want replies about me spending another 400 bucks, I just dont have the money now :) thanks!

All of this I got from www.newegg.com
thoughts?

Rosewill Value R103A Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350W Power Supply $24.99 (going to get a higher supply but dont know exactly, my friend isnt online, but I have heard this isnt enough, thoughts?)

MSI K7N2GM-V Socket A (Socket 462) NVIDIA nForce2 IGP Micro ATX AMD Motherboard $61.00

AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton 400MHz FSB Socket A Processor Model AXDA3200BOX $159.00

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) $84.73

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST380013AS 80GB 7200 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive $59.00

NEC ND-3520A Black IDE DVD Burner $49.99

COOLER MASTER SAF-B83-E1 80 x 80 x 25mm Ball Cooling Fan $9.98

ARCTIC COOLING MX-1 Thermal Compound $4.49

THERMALTAKE VOLCANO 10+ 60mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan $29.99

ok, first thing i'm gonna say to u is that you have to save up, don't rush to buy anything; all the stuff on your list is old crap

second, both the 5200 and 8500 are crap and aren't for gaming

the 5200 > 8500, but i don't know about the bandwidth of pci and agp slots

and that comp won't become a gaming comp, since neither the 5200 nor the 8500 can handle anything decent

so just save up

Hmm...well, now im running a 700mhz 256mb ram peice of shiat, so anything at this point is better.

I know basically everything I have listed is older stuff, but it will be good enough for me...I dont want this system just for a gaming computer, I just want somethign that I can play online games with(starwars galaxies, WoW ect) sometimes and not have it lag TO much.

Okay, sounds good, I will keep the 5200fx then, but again, if you can help me with my budget machine that would be great, or know of someone selling a nice entry level "gaming" machine used that would also be nice.

Athlon XP 2600+ - $79

Your not really going to notice the difference between the 2600+ and 3200+, its Barton cored and its got the 333fsb. The 3200+ is pointless.

DFI NF2 U400 S-AL Socket A (Socket 462) NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 ATX AMD Motherboard - $65

Thats the only real additions i can make.

About the Graphics card, the 5200 is newer but since it is PCI it will be really crap. I would get the 8500, since its AGP it will run well.

well my friend is running FFXI with ATi Radeon 7000 and i have a friend that plays WoW and uses FX5200 (agp though), so i guess the 8500 can power wow

Talking to my friend about the 2600 and he agrees, Im sure I will go with that, since it is also a lot cheaper.

For the motherboard, what about this one? He says its the same but different company.
