AMD Sempron processors 2200+, 2300+, 2400+ and 2500+ in Socket A will become end of life as at 10th August 2005. The transition of AMD processors from Socket A to Socket 754 based on our AMD64 technology core is in order for us to meet the evolving needs of value customers for everyday computing. AMD Sempron processors continue to provide best-in-class performance with the new Socket 754 processor cores.

We have seen the industry as a whole embrace AMD's vision of pervasive 64-bit computing. The AMD64 architecture has provided the industry a smooth transition path from 32-bit to 64-bit computing based on the industry-standard x86 architecture. As such, we have extended 64-bit capability to the AMD Sempron™ processor for desktop PCs from 19th August. This further fulfills our vision by bringing 64-bit computing to our product brand for value-conscious desktop PC buyers so that they too can benefit from 64-bit computing on the AMD64 architecture.

AMD Sempron processors will continue to be tailored to the growing segment of value-conscious PC users seeking a full-featured product with best-in-class performance for the changing face of everyday computing. AMD Athlon 64 processors are designed to meet high-performance computing needs by providing outstanding 32-bit performance, capability for tomorrow’s 64-bit applications, and Enhanced Virus Protection in conjunction with Windows® XP Service Pack 2.
