Hey, could anyone suggest a solution?

Symptoms are as follows:

CDRW starts to write, but the green led on the front turns red after two minutes.
Then the DVD drive packs in, WMP 10 recognises the Album name, but refuses to play it. No error messages come up.

I figured its not the ide cable because it's registering the CD is there.

Also, about two months ago my ps2 ports stopped working on my motherboard, I now use a usb keyboard and mouse.

Also, my PSU died a month after that, which I replaced hassle free.

My CDRW is a Philips 5200 and my DVD drive is an ASUS

Any ideas?

Yours gratefully, Mike

try uninstalling them and rebooting

if you are on win XP do this.

Mycomputer> properties > hardware > device manager > DVD/CD Rom drives > right click on the drives uninstall them and reboot.

Once the pc has rebooted it will reinstall the drivers and see how u go from there.

Hi, it's an ASUS motherboard, not sure what model it is though. I built it around 2 years ago, and it worked fine for a while but it's starting to show its age. I'll just have a crack at that idea Sprooty, cheers

It's writing now, but the led has lit up red again, it didn't use to do that, it may just be broken but I reckon it's the motherboard dying slowly
