Default CD-Rom won't refresh

When i insert a cd after my computer starts up, it recognizes the cd in "my computer". After i eject the cd and insert another cd, the computer doesnt recognize, instead thinks that the previous cd is still in the drive. This is very annoying in that i cant use the cd's in the tray because the computer doesnt recognize the new cd. Any suggestions on fixing on this problem?

I had the same exact problem. Thing is, one day it just was fixed. Never found a solution for it

this is caused by winxp service pack 1. sp2 fixes this glitch a bit. it was a compromise to improve security, i don't think it can be fixed. also it could be caused by an antivirus or firewall. check what version of windows you have by pressing windows+pause/break

I have Win XP Pro with SP 1 installed and after a format the problem is gone. Wonder why I am still not seeing it.
