Cd-rom/ Explorer locking up when loading discs

Ok here is my problem. I insert a disc into the cd-rom. Then as I open My computer/Explorer it shows a blank screen. The icons will show up only after I eject the CD. Thanks for your time system specs are as followed.

OS: XP pro
DVD-R: Sony DRU-530a
Chip: AMD 3000+ Barton
MB: Soyo dragon KT400 ultra
Video: GeForce 6800 GT OC 256 x8AGP
Memory: Curical PC3200 400DDR 2x512mb
HDD WD 40 gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
HDD WD 200 gig 7200rpm 8mb cache

That usually happens when the CD-ROM drive is busy trying to read that data on the CD, but is having difficulties doing so. I would try another disc and see if this still occurs and if it does try another CD-ROM drive and see if the problem is still present.

It happens on both cd-roms and continues until I eject the cd-roms. I have tried new discs old discs just bought a new game and can't load it because of this issue

How long are you waiting?.. Typically an autorun comes up asking you how to want to use this media, using an audio type of program, burning software, etc... This will in essence lock up explorer until it's finished reading the media, so that's why I'm asking how long you're waiting...

Let me know if you see something wrong I thought I had them all set to DMA.
