CD rom drive laser type

Compact Disc players use a 780nm laser diode. This is a bit outside the visible range of light, so I'm guessing you can't see the beam (it's still there even if you don't see it, so don't try it!).

From Wikipedia:

A CD is read by focusing a 780 nm wavelength semiconductor laser through the bottom of the polycarbonate layer.
