I looked on the net and I can't find any thing explaining this topic. What is cas latency on ram? Is it important to really pay attention to cas latency?

thanks

it's not really as important as you may think. mostly it is useful for overclocking your memory, but memory overclocking is mostly to show off. you get small gains by doing it

Thanks guys. So in the link it said that cas latency 2 is better than 3.
The only thing Im confused about on cas latency now is what performance does it exactly improve? I maybe jumping the gun but does it mean for example, cas latency 2 performs on 2 clock cycles. Does this mean that data from Ram is sent every 2 clock cycles?

the lower the latency the faster the response is. the only thing that i consider when getting memory is installing the fastest memory type (pc2700, pc3200) that the motherboard supports. than i set memory to "by SPD". this uses the recommended settings by the manufacturer. i don't try to tweak the memory at all. i'm not the best person to explain this so check here if you insist on getting the most out of your memory:

CAS 2 is great, but usually expensive.... 2.5 is good and 3 is usually on the cheapo value RAM:confused:

Just for bragging right I wouldn't get CAS 3, unless its not in your budget....

Usually they list timings in ads for RAM, say 2-3-3-6 or so... The first number is the CAS latency:confused:
