8 means more performace and faster game play in lameins terms. (not saying you dont know anything of course ) I would get the 6600 because anything lower than an x800 (ATI) is crap. the 6600 is the best bang for the buck.

Games will still support pixel shader 1.1 . Also, I agree that starting with the x800, ATI is very competative with NIVIDA in terms of Price performance on non doom3 engine games.

The 6200... But I if you really are a gamer, AT LEAST get the 6600 vanilla. It is SO much better than the 6200, and it has double the pipelines as the 6200, and it dosn't cost much more. That 6200 is $110, and here is a PCIe 6600 with 256mb of RAM for $118:

It is SO much better than the 6200 because it has 8 pipelines and the 6200 only has 4. Plus it's only $8 more.

Well 8 pixel pipelines is generally alot better then having 4 pixel lines. Generally more pixel lines the better. I really cant think of a example right now of a card with less pixel pipelines being better then one with more.

?????????

I dont know if you relize this but a 6600 is lower then a x800. For around $100 the 6600 is the best that you can do. x800 cost closer to $200 and for good reason.

If you were going to get an x800, then get a 6800 vanilla, again, for the Shader Model 3. Both the x800 and the 6800 have 12 pipelines, but the 6800 supports shader model 3 and the x800 does not. Actualy, the entire geforce 6 series (including the 6200) supports shader model 3, and currently, no ati cards support it.

6600GT matches the x800. x800 has 12 while 6600GT has 8.
