Default Can't see HDD

Hey ppl i gots a problem,
I reasently bought a new Western digital 80gb harddrive. i pluged it in and it reconised it and everything but i cant see th harddrive when i got into My computer or Windows explorer. Can someone please help me .

check to see if your motherboard sees it. It should say when the computer starts and does the memory check. Also check to see if it is on primary master, primary slave, secondary master... etc. should be on primary master if that is your HD that you boot from .

Samsung QX410 notebook <-- lol, I'm always on the go these days :(

The motherboard sees it fine, and all the drivers are installed. its set as a slave drive, and its not being used as the boot drive, I'm just using it for extra space

this happens when the drive has not been formatted yet; restart to DOS - if you're using XP, put in the XP CD, and go to the recovery console by pressing R at the first screen
when you're there, type fdisk, and select 'create new primary partition' and select your new drive which will show as unformatted
