Default can an LCD be hardwired to a v-card?

hey all, this is a multi-part question.

first, on the laptop i own now, is it likely the screen is wired to the video card to get the information to display while it's connected to the motherboard for power? the power doesn't come from the videocard, right?

secondly, if the power does in fact come from the mobo, is it a special laptop connection or would most any motherboard have the same type of connection?

and finally (this might be a long one) can anyone sum up how the screen gets the right juice flowing through it? does it have some sort of resister or something where you can plug it in virtually anywhere (within reason!) and it should have the same amount of power flowing through it?

thanks for your patience!
