Angry C:> on a compaq

I am trying to access the command prompt on a Compaq computer. I need to fix the MBR. I cant find anyway to access it. When I hit f8 it doesnt give me a boot menu. Is there another way to do this? It is running XP.

d/l a win98 boot disk. Reboot with the disk in the drive. That'll take you to a dos prompt.

I was wondering if I could use a 98 boot disk. Now to fix the MBR do I need an XP setup disk? Thanks for the help.
